Why PRAY?

During the Easter Season we will be exploring the question of: why pray? As people of faith, prayer is a staple of our daily lives. Although we are separated by stay-at-home orders and social distancing due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our staff is working to encourage you and assist you in your pursuit of this question.

Why SERVE?
During the Season of Lent we reflected as a community on WHY we SERVE.

Why GIVE?

Dear Friends in Christ,

Children often ask why?” Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? Why can’t I stay up as late as you? Perhaps adults aren’t much different. Like children, adults ask “why?”

Why pray, for example. Well, we pray in order to grow in our relationship with God. We pray in order to share more deeply in the friendship and life that God so generously offers to us.

Why serve? When we serve or help others, we are really reaching out to Christ himself. As Jesus teaches: whatever you do to the least sister or brother of mine, you do for me (Matthew 25).

Why give? A financial gift to the offertory enables us to partner with the Church in order to further the mission of Christ in sharing His Good News with others.

In 2018-19, your financial gift to the offertory at Nativity Parish has helped to provide the distribution of 2.3 million pounds of food to the hungry in Hillsborough County through our Food Bank and parish Food Pantry. Your gift to the offertory made it possible to send over $56,000 last year to our sisters and brothers in La Victoria, D.R. – providing quality nutrition for over 100 hungry children and building secure housing for families living in poverty there. Your sacrifice to the offertory at Mass enables our parish to offer a quality Catholic education to literally thousands of youth, allows us to offer pastoral services to hundreds of needy and marginalized, and provides the space where we can worship and learn about our faith.

For these reasons, Nativity parish is engaging in a campaign entitled “Find Your Why.” We are asking all of our parishioners to ask themselves: why pray, why serve, why give? In particular, I am asking you to give even more generously to our offertory this coming year. Increasing our offertory will allow Nativity Parish to do even more for others. As we do more for others, we grow in faith and discover why God created us and what God created us to do. Truly, God is found in the act of sacrifice. God is present in our selfless giving.

So, find your why. Prayerfully and intentionally make a sacrificial commitment to the offertory this year. The generous gift you offer to Nativity Parish will be a rich blessing to countless sisters and brothers.

In Christ’s love,
Fr. John Tapp

Have you prayerfully considered your sacrificial commitment to our offertory?
