Sunday LIFE NIGHTS

Leading Teens Closer To Christ

This past fall we just completed a series of Life Nights on the Mass.  It is so important that our teens get an understanding of the Mass because as we know so many of our teens and young adults stop going to Mass because of their lack of understanding the importance of being nourished by the Eucharist, which is the "source and summit" of our faith.  Parents please continue to encourage your teens to fervently not only go to Mass but be active participants in the liturgy.  We offer many ways for teens go get involved in the 6pm Mass on Sunday's; i.e. Reading, Ushering, Eucharistic Minister, and Candle Bearers.

What is Life Teen?

Life Teen started at St. Timothy parish in Mesa, Arizona. Since its beginning, the movement has spread across the nation & to over twenty countries worldwide.  It is a dynamic & comprehensive youth ministry that concentrates on leading teens closer to Christ through strong Eucharistic spirituality & dedication to our Blessed Mother.

How is catechesis taught?  What textbook do you use?

There are no classrooms & no “textbooks” in the Life Teen model.  Instead, the teens learn about & interact with their faith through Life Nights, which take place on Sunday evenings for High School.  They hear the message of the week & pray together in a large group setting & then break into small groups to further reflect on what they have heard.  All of our material comes from two main sources, the Bible & the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  Life Teen uses a four year curriculum that is based on the guidelines set forth by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.

What does Life Teen & Life Force look like at Nativity?

Every Sunday Night teens gather for our Youth Mass at 6pm.  This Mass has contemporary music and lively homilies that engage our youth.  After Mass High School teens gather for a meal in our Social Hall.  Following the meal Life Teen gathers in our Youth Center for a Life Night that ends at 9pm.  Life Teen gathers again on Wednesday evenings, 7pm-9pm, for fellowship, games, relaxation in our Youth Center and then they break open the upcomming Gospel reading for Sunday, as they reflect and pray through God's word.

Who plans the Life Nights?  Who runs them?

Our Life Teen Life Nights are run by an energetic group of adults who we call our Life Night Core Team.  They are committed twice a week to mentor teens and plan our Sunday Life Nights. All of our adults are Safe Environment trained, Background Checked, and trained on how to use the Life Teen resource to help in Catechesis.

How can parents and other volunteers get involved?

The success of the Nativity Life Teen & Life Force program is directly related to the number of hands that pitch in to help.  There are many ways you can get involved even if you don't run our Life Nights.  Each have a valuable part.  An invaluable part of our ministry is our Agape Cafe Meals on Sunday evenings.  This is done by a group of parents or a parish ministry that prepare & serve dinner for the teens after Mass on Sunday evenings.  Life Teen is made up of our Life Night Core, Service Core, and Prayer Core.  Our Life Night Core develop and plan our Life Nights and are part catechist, part cheerleader, and part sympathetic ear for the teens.  Our Service Core help set up and clean up meals, build environments for Life Nights and help around the office.  Our Prayer Crew Core by praying during Life Nights for the teens intentions and also help lead prayer activites for the Core Team and teens at the Life Night on Sunday.  The Core Team Members collaborate with the youth minister on a weekly basis.  For more information on these ministries, please contact Melissa Goode, Youth Administrative Assistant or Nancy Bergman, Assistant Youth Minister.  We are always looking for willing hearts to join us!
