If you're on this page looking for information on how to start your marriage process, we want you to know that we're so proud of you! Catholic weddings are truly holy and beautiful, an extraordinary witness to the world of the awesome Sacrament of Matrimony.

The love that you have for each other will blossom as God calls you to continue to grow in holiness, love and discipleship.

To get married here at Nativity, here's a handy checklist you need to know:

STEP 1 - Call or E-mail Terry Montalvo  at the Church Office.  (813) 681-4608. She is always happy to help our engaged couples through their next steps.  We recommend making this contact at least 6-8 months before your wedding date.

DOCUMENTS YOU'LL NEED to BEGIN:

  • Current Baptism Certificates for bride and groom.  Make sure to have these from the Church where you were baptized, and have them include the complete address of the Church on the certificate, so we can help them update their records as well.  If you were baptized here at Nativity, we'll have this record.

  • Communion and Confirmation Certificates.  We just need a copy of these.  If you received all your sacraments at the same Church, many times they will indicate this and send with your Baptism Certificate.

  • Previous Marriage?  We can still help you.  If either the bride or groom has been married previously, we will need a copy of the marriage certificate, and your divorce decree.  We can then help guide you through steps in the annulment process as necessary.

  • Married Already and now would like to marry in the Church? Couples married civilly will still need to go through the same process.  In this case, we will also need a copy of your marriage certificate.  In the end you'll have a Convalidation.  The fee structure is slightly different, so click on that link under Other Marriage Resources at the bottom left of the page.

  • B Forms - Later on in the process, both the bride and groom will need two witnesses each who can give testimony as to your obvious upstanding character and freedom to marry.  These forms will have to be signed and notarized before a priest or notary, so it's never too early to have your witnesses ready and waiting.

Brides and Grooms like to know what to expect after that initial contact.

  • Interview with a priest - After you contact Terry, she'll schedule you to chat with one of our awesome priests.  You'll take a fun survey when you arrive for that appointment, called the FOCCUS.  There are some fees associated with the preparation process, and if you're getting married here, there is a $100 nonrefundable deposit when you arrive for your appointment.  We just don't want you to be surprised.  For a copmlete list of fees, click the link under Other Marriage Resources at the bottom left.

  •   See, we didn't spell it wrong!  The survey actually stands for "Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding & Study."  It's designed to help you discover your strengths as a couple and those areas that still need growth.  It takes about 45 minutes to complete.  Shortly thereafter, you'll be contacted by our marriage counselor team to review your results in a very low-key, relaxing environment that fosters communication and sharing.

  • Retreat - You'll then get to spend some quality time at a Diocesan retreat weekend called Pre-Cana, or participate in Engagement Matters program with our very own Deacon Mark and Cindy Taylor.
